I’m Maddie Alan-Lee, a doctoral candidate in Screen Cultures at Northwestern University. My dissertation focuses on contemporary genres of networked video and imagery, including Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR), slime videos, and #oddlysatisfying, placing them in conversation with digital media artworks that engage and critique these popular aesthetic forms. Because I believe that academic writing, at its best, is a collaborative and creative endeavor, I value The Writing Place’s commitment to fostering exploration through peer mentorship. As a Graduate Writing Fellow, I strive to cultivate a comfortable space where we can explore and develop the strengths of a given piece of writing together.
